biometric
biometric is a sound installation which creates a complex piece of surround-sound ambient music based on a user’s fingerprint.
biometric was exhibited at london gallery west on the 1st and 2nd of december 2008.
a fingerprint scanner is mounted on a plinth waiting for a user to scan their finger. when the fingerprint is scanned, some custom software written using c, perl, and maxmsp/jitter will analyse the fingerprint and feed the data from it into an array of synth and sequencer modules within the application.
the piece of music will be played back in real time in 5.1 surround-sound and will last between 30 seconds and one minute depending on the size of the fingerprint.
